[Author Prev] [Author Next] [Thread Prev] [Thread Next] [Author Index] [Topic Index] [Home] [Search]i was in bergen county camera last night and tom thrust out a digilux 2 for me to look at. to cut to the chase, even as a rabidly anti-digital zealot, and even with it's 2K pricetag, i'm quite impressed. of course it's a great-looking camera, but what i really liked was the completely intuitive placement of zoom, focus, aperture and shutter controls and the substantial feel imparted to the user. the internal digital viewfinder was fascinating, although due to time sampling , it sometimes looked like a mpg video over a 56K phone line. i immediately turned off the display on the back (i HATE those things) and used the viewfinder display (which you can use to view all your images). in manual focus mode, when you touched the focus ring, the focus patch automatically expanded to give a high-resolution view of the center part of the image, and then dissapeared when you stopped focusing. nice. though i don't like flash as a general rule, the flash is pretty cool, it pops up for direct and bounce use. autofocusing seemed quiet, quick and accurate. given the opportunity, i'd definitely try out the digilux 2 over a weekend. i think they've got a product simultaneously innovative and retro, and exudes quality. if they substituted a F0.25 or F0.35 12.5mm prime lens, i would probably have to own one. - -rei - -- Rei Shinozuka shino@panix.com Ridgewood, New Jersey - -- To unsubscribe, see http://mejac.palo-alto.ca.us/leica-users/unsub.html
