Either one will produce exceeding fine detail with a level of contrast that is just not available anywhere else. In case you were wondering about any bad news, neither one is especially able to show veiling flare. The 24 in particular just will not flare. If you go down to the 21 focal length then the Cosina 21 is of good quality and very respectable optical results. The price isn't bad either. In the R system the 28 Elmarit is almost as good as the M Summicron just a stop slower. The R 24 is a decent lens, possibly as good as the 24 Nikkor. The 19mm in the R system is almost as stunningly good as the 24 in the M system. I have never used one wider than 35mm. Can I get educated on optical quality of various wide angle lenses which might be suitable for my intended use? I use M3 and SL (or RE with winder), which means comments on either for M or R are welcome.
