Over the years I've replaced older with newer when I could afford it. Never made money on Leica. Broke even at best. But I never felt like I wasted money on anything Leica. I did on systems that evolved. As far as the future of film equipment, my view is that things are as glutlike right now as they're going to be. Demand for film equipment has been down for some years. Not too many companies are making film equipment. Most of what's for sale is existing stock. Supply gets depleted, demand levels out, prices hold steady or increase. For quality stuff, that is. I was surprised to see in the recent survey how many people are still using film only. That very fact tells me there's silver in them thar film canisters. It's not like anyone who reads the LUG can be digitally uninformed. Heck, reading the LUG almost convinced me that digital is the only way to go. Back to the Elmar, a 5-year old DSLR today isn't worth much today. And while an Elmar will probably lose 40% of it's value the moment I drive it off the lot, it won't depreciate much after that. Not in 5-years. Not in 20-years. It it will probably remain forever one of the sharpest lenses available. Plus, it looks so darn nifty. DaveR - ----- Original Message ----- From: "B. D.
