I need to use a tripod and exceptional lens and film to better a 6mp 
digital SLR with film. My scans produce huge files, but there is not 
more detail in them with normal hand held photography.
Rather like your audio analogy, the difference in sampling rate is 
audible by some (not many IME) but a well engineered 44.1 kHz system is 
still noticeably better than normal commercial units at 96kHz.
