Interestingly enough, During the DIMA show there were two exhibits where
two oil paintings were copied with the best available technology to
match exactly the color.  Unfortunately, in both cases, it didn't work.
The problem is color space.  An artist can mix a color that no printer
using any dye, pigment, or ink can match.

On a computer monitor this can not be shown because the original is
limited by the color space of the monitor.  So, in the digital world, it
looks the same.  Out in the real world you can get close, and in the
spirit, but still miss the color.

Maybe Bill Gates is right to use plasma displays to show art in his
house.

An associate of mine forwarded the following email. Wilhelm seems to
have even more to say on his sight. When you reproduce an oil, either it
matches or it doesn't. If Epson can achieve what is shown in the link,
then how bad can an epson M camera with a leica lens be?
