I've never heard that one and I would have noticed since I'm both an
American and a Swede. I get sensitive on all sides :)

On the other hand, I play it safe. I 1) tend to standardize on black for
my slacks and 2) don't leave the house without asking my wife first.

Now socks ... Swedes will wear white socks. Can you simply imagine!?
