I'm just watching your back. :) If someone comes out and claims you've been bad-mouthing the Leica D II based on Panasonic data (yes, same box), .... :) Funny thing though. This German magazine, FOTO, usually has a few pages (20 or so) like a catalogue over digital cameras, scanners, what-not. It's in alphabetical order. You won't find _anything_ under Leica. They don't even bother listing the Leica models. They're found under Panasonic instead. Sometimes I think Leica might be playing it safe (and not sorry). They're not very big on electronics and the overhead of marketing a line of new digital cameras must be huge. So they license out their glass to Panasonic. That gets them into the game. They can use the association to Panasonic to pick up a few pointers on this new ballgame (electronics) and try and catch up. At they same time they can relatively cheaply come out with their own (Panasonic), keeping their foot in there. All the while they're getting some revenue from the glass that has been licensed out to Panasonic and Panasonic does all the marketing (well, not _all_ but most). It's kind of a safe way to get into the market without getting too risky. Leica is just a little company. They need that safety net. Daniel On Thu, 4 Mar 2004, B. D. Colen wrote: > Ohmigod.
