the speedmaster automatics are also quite a bit smaller (which is to read
normal size) and some models offer day and day/date. mine is
a chrome face and steel band--i really wanted a leather band
but apparently those are not sold on the day/date speedmaster
in the USA.

recently, one of my 20-something employees had read something
about "watches that never needed batteries because they wound
themselves by motion" and he refused to believe that they had
once been prevalent and that i had had such a "novel" device as
a child way back in the 60's.

It's the M2 of Speedmasters although it's still in current production. They also make an automatic version with a saphire crystal, a wannabe copy. Sort of the MP of Speedmasters. I'm an Omega collector too ;>)
