rei,
i swoped my 'moon' watch for the day/date model because of size. great
watch until it needs to be reset, trying to remember all the steps takes the
better part of the morning :-> Jeweler had given me the wrong box and as
such, wrong instructions. Seems mine went to someone else and they never
returned it. Now my M7 is much easier to pick up without the manual.....
also have friends that can't understand why i would have watches that
require winding like my daytona, or even those that run out of steam after a
day or so. think they write it off to me being an old fart. possibly
right.

the speedmaster automatics are also quite a bit smaller (which is to read
normal size) and some models offer day and day/date. mine is
a chrome face and steel band--i really wanted a leather band
but apparently those are not sold on the day/date speedmaster
in the USA.

recently, one of my 20-something employees had read something
about "watches that never needed batteries because they wound
themselves by motion" and he refused to believe that they had
once been prevalent and that i had had such a "novel" device as
a child way back in the 60's.

wind with the Hesalite (acrylic) crystal, engraved "First Watch Worn On The
Moon". It's the M2 of Speedmasters although it's still in current
production. They also make an automatic version with a saphire crystal, a
wannabe copy. Sort of the MP of Speedmasters. I'm an Omega collector too
