Was there room to have got on the other side of the watering can so the drip would be backlit? I'm sure if you'd moved or it were possible to do that, move to the other side, the shot and drip would've been far more effective than what we see. This has nothing to do with the timing of shutter release, nor lagtime, as obvious you captured the moment on the mark sans lag. As you hit the drip right on the peak.
