John,
    Only you can decide how important the .7 meter focusing is for you.
However, if you can live with one meter, Leica USA will install a focusing
pin to the lens. Actually the "pin" is a thumb screw from a bellows unit.
    They had done this to both my 50 Summilux & Summicron. It  should  cost
about 100 USD.
    On my lenses, when the pin is in the six o'clock position the lens is
focused at eight feet.
