Brad,
I am not sure where you are going with this new work.  Take for example
the second image:

I love the light on the girl, the composition, and her expression.  I
even get along with the tonality.  But the grain and lack of focus just
don't work for me at all.  I guess I am really looking for an
explanation of what you are doing.  This has to be a purposeful
direction.
