Thanks Bob. What I wanted to illustrate with that shot is how gravestones
get reused as time goes by. The top-piece over the door is a lock from a
sarcophagus. The "lily motif" (vines) is interpreted by some to be a
remnant from pagan times (vikings). This motif is found in the very
earliest carvings, but died out with time (before the 1300's, I think).

The steps are also lids from graves that were no longer visited or taken
care of. Time takes its toll even on the big-whigs and after centuries
most are forgotten.

Yes, you can see the Norman influence. The first Christian missionaries
were from England and Ireland.
