The US thought the Party was just swell in 1936. In the town of Yapank,
near were I grew up on Long Island, there was a whole section which named
their streets after members of the party. I don't believe there was a
Riefenstahl Blvd. After the war they renamed all the streets except one,
German Ave.

Since were on the subject of film, some ranking party members worked closely
with Walt Disney after the war. Can you name which ones?

Well, given that Hitler was depending upon (read: using) the '36 Olympics to
be a huge opportunity to promote his agenda (read: a propaganda
opportunity), it makes perfect sense. This was a chance to promulgate
ideology with the whole world watching, and to push it far and wide via the
filmed version.

Outspoken and snottily derisive as ever,

Kit ;-)

I shall dig up the citation regarding IOC
commissioning of the film in the next day, as this may
be important to some LUGgers.

I would not be surprised to learn that she relied a
great deal on the cooperation and support of the local
government authorities (who were Nazis in Berlin in
1936) -- that's the way Olympics coverage works, as
Ted suggested so eloquently the other day.
