Chris,

A few years ago, a class of mine at CCAC did a project where we had a
bunch of cars in the parkinglot of the school. We got the locals (in
this case the students of the local high school) and some adults in the
community (shop owners, parents, etc.) to sit in the cars and talk about
things that concern them. Topics like drugs, sex, violence, relationship
advice, music all came up. The photo class and the video class
documented the whole thing and then had an exibit. All of the people in
the photos and videos were at the opening along with people from other
cities in the neighboring areas.

The exibit was a hit on multiple levels. The kids liked seeing
themselves in the pictures and videos and more conversations came up
about the topics that were discussed that day.

The photo students all got to be stars for a night too. All in all many
people walked away from the exibit talking and thinking about stuff they
might not have had they not gone.

Thus spake Saganich, Christopher/Medical Physics (saganicc@mskcc.org):

> I was asked to come up with a community based photo project and I need
> some ideas. The basic concept is a project where the community (Brooklyn)
> actively participates, is served by, and is better as a result of. Simply
> having an exhibit where the public is invited isn't enough.
>
> Any experience and ideas would be appreciated.
