Like many other old-timers, I have seen Fritz Lang's "M,'' in German
with English sub-titles, with Peter Lorre, many times, usually on some TV
movie
channel, although not lately.
As the above site notes, the movie is about a child-killer who makes
life
so difficult for lesser criminals that the underworld sets out to kill him.
The film has been remade at least once but nowhere near as well as The
Original.
It ranks up there along with von Sternberg's, The Blue Angel, also in
Ger
man, with Marlene Dietrich, and, maybe, a dozen other foreign classic
films,
like the Pagnol trilogy [in French] Fanny, Marius and Cesar, all with
Raimu,
the French actor. -- bob cole
