Actually the image size of a 50mm lens at 10 feet and a 100mm at 20 feet is
not exactly the same. A 50mm lens at 10 feet shows slightly less than a
100mm lens at 20 feet. If you could double the angle of view by halving the
focal length a 24mm lens would show over 90 degrees, a 12mm lens would show
over 180 degrees, a 6mm over 360 degrees, and a 3mm over 720 degrees. It
would be a cheap way to get a rectilinear panoramic with no swinging lens.
