The problem with turning a crappy lens into a great lens is that by the time the light has hit the film or sensor plane, there is also a ton of light that has gone off in other directions ... that is what should be in the image has been spread out in a volume between the lens and the sensor. Now if you could properly image that *volume* you actually could reconstruct an entirely corrected image (via 3D deconvolution). Of course its alot cheaper to get the lastest APO Asph in the first place.... * Jonathan * that said, image enhancement software can improve resolution etc to some extent.
