It has a LOT of aperture blades, so the aperture is very round. You may
have had a bad specimen. I have read that the lube (whale oil) tends to
evaporate onto the lens surfaces within, but that might be urban legend.

I owned a Summarit some years ago, and found it was ok optically, but
the
mechanics of the focus/aperture controls were not up to the standards I
expected from Leitz.  Maybe I had a bad example.  Just look carefully at
the whole assembly, not just the glass.
