Don't worry about the gold contacts - instead ask yourself why Nikon is
bringing out a new F iteration that has mostly minor tweaks over the F5;
why Nikon is introducing a new pro film camera at a time when Canon and
Nikon are having trouble giving away their top film cameras; why this is
the first F ever to not have an interchangeably prism; why this is the
first pro autofocus Nikon that has a removable motor drive. What all
that says to me is that this film camera is going to have a digital
back, making it an all-in-one for those who have a big investment in
Nikon lenses, will still be shooting some film, but also want digital.
AND, I'd bet it's going to be Nikon's full-frame digital, because while
they have pretty much committed to putting their digital resources in
speed, reliability, low battery drain, and other things that PJs need,
there are probably plenty of pros, including PJS, who X times a year
would like to have a full-frame but can't justify a separate body. This
way, they can combine their film and full-frame body. But I'm just
guessing obviously.

Well soon someone will have one in hand and check for all kinds of funny
gold contacts. Although I'm not sure if anyone ever saw them on the R8.
