Hmmm. It sounds like the tension spring that is supposed to be wound up
as you "wind up" the self timer is broken or not properly anchored to
provide the spring force.

If your are already skilled at repairing a IIc, the IIIf shouldn't be
too much of a challenge. The self-timer is modular; you should be able
to remove it and see what is wrong.

Vick

Thanks to all that have made suggestions, but maybe I was too vague; the
problem is that the self-timer lever acts like it's not connected to
anything. It swings freely throughout it's full travel with no
resistance or noise whatsoever save for the spring-loaded locking button
which seems to operate correctly. I'm not averse to attempting to
repair this myself( over the last few months I've almost completely
overhauled my IIc--one problem at a time), I just don't want to spend a
couple of days searching for some unknown spring that attempted to
attain a low-earth orbit simply because I didn't know to expect it.

Again, any suggestions will be appreciated,

Dave Kimes
