I realize that 1956 Leica manuals are truly fascinating, and books about
Leica bellows are, well, beyond description. But if there's by some
weird chance anyone on this list actually interested in photography,
they might want to take a look at the new book Magnum Stories...
"UK Exhibition at The Guardian Newsroom, 60 Farringdon Road, London from
18 November until 17 December 2004 Magnum Stories explores the 'photo
story' through 61 essays by the members of Magnum Photos. The book
covers a wide range of subjects including the Vietnam War, student
protests in Tiananmen Square, Picasso, Malcolm X, the New York Police,
Ghandi's funeral and Buddhism. Each of the 61 Photographers is
represented by a story of their choice, and a newly commissioned text,
each offering a rare insight into the mind and working practice of the
members.

"Magnum Stories provides a unique reflection on the course of
photojournalism in the second half of the twentieth century and into the
twenty-first, from the common purpose of the post-W.W.II years to the
individualistic range of practices and interests that constitute
documentary photography today."

Wait, what could I be thinking.....The 18th printing of the 1949 Wookie
manual is definitely the book to buy.... ;-)
