A casino made the purchase; they intend to use it as a tourist draw. The
thing will probably pay for itself inside of fifteen minutes.

This reminds me of a similar story: about a decade ago the owners of the
Franklin Mint paid more than $230,000 for Jackie Kennedy's Kenneth Lane
costume pearls. Mind you this was for costume jewelry, worth at most $100.
However, these pearls were in several famous LEICA-MADE photographs*,
notably with John-John grabbing at Mommy's necklace. Many were aghast that
the Resnicks spent that much for fake jewelry.

About five months after the auction I noticed ads for "Jackie's Pearls! Only
ten zillion payments (totaling $200) and you can have the authorized replica
of the ORIGINAL, owned by the Franklin Mint." During a walk through the
local mall, I saw a Franklin Mint store and went inside. I asked the clerk
if they had "Jackie's Pearls". He said no; the first production run of
50,000 sold out immediately, and they were waiting for more.

You do the math. Guess the damn things were actually quite cheap, in the
scheme of things.

Best,

Well, the Virgin Mary grilled cheese sandwich sold for a reported $28,000.
