My Pentax Optio 555 took a very gentle bump on the nose last week.  The 
long plastic telescoping lens (really it's more like a collapsible 
camping cup) just lost all of its structure;  the camera became an 
instant lump of cheap plastic.

I'm thinking that long, protruding lenses on digicams in general may be 
a liability...
