One of the questions I've had, just getting started with digital
printing:

Most of the illustrations and examples for using these profiles apply to
Windows users.

How are profiles used in Mac OS X? Is it necessary to use custom
profiles with Mac OS X?  I know a lot of folks print with the printer
settings straight out of the box.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.
