You can set the white point, by you can't do it visually - change the 
number - scan, check the result. Repeat if needed...

NikonScan is a bit more visual, but it has a habit of lopping off the 
shadow, unless you are scanning slides. Very annoying. They call it a 
feature for some reasons.
