Subject: [Leica] In the hands of its engineers, not bean counters

No amount of sales tinkering will save Leica. The "visionary" angle is
about right - real marketing: designing, making, pricing and distributing
things that enough people actually want and can be sold at a profit.

Unfortunately, "saving" Leica won't have much to do with folks like us
who are interested in expensive well made, carefully engineered, sturdy,
relatively simple manual cameras with fine optics. There just aren't enough
of us and the numbers are dwindling.

While I certainly hope that Leica continues to make M bodies and their
lovely, pricey prime lenses, real profits and business progress will
have to
come from some other product lines. A digital RF line might support a
profitable niche business, but I really can't say. The rapid product
cycling
that characterizes digital cameras seems rather un-Leica like.
