This isn't a computer-guru question, it's a computers-in-radiology question, 
which can really only be answered by people who know about computer use in 
radiology. And I suspect that's none of us.

However, from a computer engineering standpoint, general-purpose solutions 
ALWAYS win out over special-purpose solutions in the long run.
