Subject: [Leica] Don't push that film ...

I've been told. And deep down, I agree. It's just that sometimes you
really need that extra shutter speed and the choice is between losing
your shadows or losing you shot.

So I simply couldn't resist when I passed through the camera store (Oslo
Kameraservice on Karl Johann) on my way home on Wednesday. There was
this coke-bottle 1.4 50mm priced less than a carton of cigarettes (I
don't smoke, so I'm not real sure about the logic here ... I suppose I
mean I can waste that amount of money on something else, when others
burn it up).

Anyway ... a coke-bottle 50 (= Nippon Kogaku Nikkor-S Auto) with a stop
more than any other lens that I own. Remember those? About the size of a
basefall and the weight of a billiard ball. Silver trim ...

Now that should let me shoot 400 films at 400 at Louice. Probably miss
the focus most of the time, but ...

So I had to test it out first, of course. Wide open, of course. Not much
sense of using it any other way. I can only use it on one of the F3's
with stop down metering. If I use it wide-open, I don't have to stop
down :-)

And 35 years from now, she'll probably look like this:

So if anyone out there is debating between a Summilux or a Summicron. Go
for the Summilux. I know, I know ... Noctilux too. But if you're
debating that, you can probably afford both anyway.

Actually, this was just a catharsis ritual. I bought a cheap wide-angle
zoom for my digital camera (18-70). Crazy how much value they can pack
into such cheap pacages. The 24-85 has become part of a dedicated p&s
package.
