Hi Tina,
I would be surprised if your peripherals would not work on a Mac too,
the software obviously not, though it would be worth verifying
whether Photoshop is transferable or if an upgrade can change platform.
I have been using computers, and that meant writing most of my
software too, since before Microsoft existed. I was horrified by the
poor performance of the original IBM pc. It was pitiful. I am still
influenced by this disappointment and though I use pcs at work daily
I would not waste one penny of my own money on one.
I have 4 Macs at home running on a simple network. My wife and
children were complete computer illiterates but still never had a
problem doing anything they wanted on them. The main machine has two
internal and 3 external drives. They are all Seagates except a LaCie
drive which you mention must be a Maxtor. All my photographs are on
the external drives and I have only had one problem with a disc in 18
years of Mac useage, data recovered myself using commercial software,
though it took hours, this was actually a LaCie disc.
I do keep the backup discs off and disconnected whilst not in use as
I assume this will reduce the potential for failure.
I would urge you to re-look at the Mac alternative. The only thing
Microsoft have definitely brought to computing is the lowering of
expectations.
Frank
