Thanks for all the well wishes, both here and offlist.

While I'm going to miss Skye a lot and I wish he'd have stayed longer with
us, I couldn't have picked a better way for him to go.  As far as he knows,
he's probably still chasing a rabbit.  He was a rescue dog.  From his
behavior, I suspect he was abused at his previous home.  We got him when he
was almost a year old.  It took him another year to settle in with us and
realize he had a permanent and loving home, and that it was alright to play.
All dogs should have fun during their all-too-brief lives.

We're off to look for a puppy/young dog this morning.  The sound of one dog
barking is not quite enough noise to be normal.  And it all ties back to
Leica, because a new dog is definitely a photo op!
