And her data..... The data is on the disk.  It is a matter of finding the
right person to get it off and safely stored.  THEN and only then, get the
PC replaced.

There are data recovery services available that do this for a living.  It
costs, but so does scanning 200GB of slides in terms of time that could be
more profitably spent doing something else.

It is a matter of priorities.

I believe  in California there is a lemon law that applies to PC's. If in
warranty, the manufacture gets 3 times to  fix it then must replace it
with a new one.
