Michael -

If you intend on putting them on DVDs or some other storage 
ultimately, it would be better to do ahead and do that since iView 
automatically catalogs the location of the files.  I keep mine on a 
hard drive until I'm ready to catalog, then I use Archive Creator to 
determine how many DVDs I will need and name each one sequentially or 
however I want.  I burn the DVDs and then import to iView from the 
DVDs.  iView records the name of the DVD for each file that is 
cataloged.  When you look at the preview for any photo, it will tell 
you which DVD the photo is on.

If, on the other hand, you intend to keep them on the hard drive then 
you could separate them into folders - a certain name for those 
cataloged, which you would want anyway since iView will record them 
that way, and another folder for those not yet cataloged.
