Subject: [Leica] DMR Battery Life

Tina,

I would agree with Robert - I can go days without having the battery go
dead. I have a spare (it is VERY light weight) and on only one occasion did
I have to replace the battery while doing a project.

Tina:

I am sure the capacity the guy heard was in regards to leaving the camera on
with the monitor running. I have left mine on overnight and once it goes
into the sleep mode it seems to use little power. The battery is still
showing full the next morning. I think most of us are getting 300 shots or
more with lots of use of the monitor. The DMR batteries are also probably
1/3 the weight of a 1D battery, so you may want to compare the capacity by
the size of the battery.

I would bet a DMR/R9 combo and two batteries is still lighter than a 1D MkII
and one battery. Time to get out the wife's kitchen scale again...

Here are the results:

R9/DMR Battery in camera plus spare battery, 1520 grams

1D Mk II Battery in camera, 1600 g

DMR battery 100 grams

EOS 1D battery 310 grams

So it looks like you could have a DMR and three batteries for only 20 grams
more than a 1D Mk II and no spare battery. I know people will argue that
two more batteries for the DMR would be more expensive than just one spare
battery for a 1D, but price or economy is not why most of us bought Leicas.

The DMR also comes with a cigar lighter adapter for the battery charger, an
option not available with the 1D. If you are so far out of civilization
that there is not any power either in the form of 12v, or the multi voltage
AC adapter, film would probably the more prudent approach.
