I think you do RC Doug,
some time ago there was a statement from Canon posted in which they 
mentioned a variable compensation software which communicates between 
lens and camera and corrects for focal length, aperture  and a couple of 
other factors. Of course this only works with lenses that can "talk to" 
the camera body.
