Don.. it is a Japanese point of view, not an American one that counts.  They
DECIDE what direction to steer the future.  They are not customer driven to
solutions that do not fit their future goals.  Profits on existent products
are not part of the equation.. that is an Americanism.

Dealing with the Japanese's is a frustrating experience for Americans.  They
just do not act as we think.

I want to be sure to point out that the Japanese are not necessarily wrong.
They just reach a different decision using a different set of parameters.

If your production facilities are amortised and your research costs are
close to zero, then continued production of a product can be extremely
profitable.
