Greg:

I followed the "advanced workflow" in the user manual, and I like the
results I get from Vuescan.

Basically, start by previewing clear film base.  Make sure the selection
rectangle just has a clear area.  Save the exposure.  Preview again.  This
time, you'll get a checkbox for keeping the base film the same.  Check that.
Now, go off and start scanning.

I haven't shot Tri-X in years.  But I've been happy I get with this workflow
using Acros, Tmax 100, Delta 100, Delta 400, Neopan 400, and Neopan 1600.
