I am no expert. I just try and make sure it doesn't bottom out at
either end. If you've captured it, you can deal with it later. If it
bottoms out, it's gone. Pretty much like film (with the advantage that
you don't have to wait for unpleasant surprizes from the lab).

This is something I have to deal with when photographing skaters on ice.
