On this card thing...

More than a hunch in my case. I've been shooting digital - originally
very limited - since about 1999. I have not shot a roll of film since
April 2003, and I make my living from this.

I have never lost a single image due to card failure.

I credit this luck to the fact that I do always buy the largest card
I can get/afford and leave it in the camera, period. Since all of my
pro cameras have used CF, it is my opinion that schmutz - dirt - that
gets into the very tiny CF pin holes is sufficient many times to
render the card flakey. If one leaves it in the camera, there is
essentially no chance of that happening.

Having said that: I generally shoot less than 200-250 shots per short
assignment, and bring a laptop and Video/Photo iPod with me on longer
shoots. I also use - gasp! - highest quality jpegs, not raw or tiff.

Also, the RD-1 requires you to take its SD? card out to retrieve
images. OK, but it's one of the reasons I have not bought one yet.
Yes, the SD cards don't have the tiny little CF card holes, and that
probably helps a lot.

YMMV,
