I spent some time a couple of years ago with one of our more  
reputable Leica dealers, known to most of us, and he gave me a lesson  
in buying used cameras, especially from humid climates. (There's a  
lot of used Leica gear available from South America.)  The first  
thing he did was open the body and smell it, trying to detect fungus  
and mold.
