Steve,
The Leica folks including Roger Horn are pretty sure that the dM will be
announced at Photokina with deliveries starting soon after. 1.3 crop
factor, 10mp, verticle metal shutter, somewhat larger than the current M.
Infromation from the beta testers is very sketchy but generally postive as
long as you accept increased vignetting with ultrawides due to sensor
failure(see all the RD1 posts in the archives). Even more sketchy are the
methods that will be used to overcome this.

Like most new things from Leica there will be screams about expense,
complaints that it isn't perfect, complaints that Leica was too anal
retentive in how they make the "best" solution out there, real screams that
it is not a real M, to how could they stop using the shutter that has served
them so well for 80 years.

Hopefully, Leica will take lessons from Silicone Valley and get out version
1 as promised. If they don't then they are fish bait, if they do, there is
always the possibility of version 1a to correct any deficiencies.
