Steve: Some technical features had been confirmed by Leica product manager
Stefan Daniel in the LFI (Leica Foto International) magazine 1/2006. Metal
shutter, 1.33 crop, MP/M7 range-/viewfinder unit, three new wide angle
lenses (focal lengths unknown but likely three quarter of common lengths to
match the crop factor). No official confirm about the release date.
Photokina (sept. 2006) seems to be on schedule as Leica is strongly willed
not to repeat the DMR delay debacle. Other Leica products (camera and 14-50
zoom lens for the 4/3 system) are expected on the same date, too.

Richard: "Same size as M7" - are you talking about the digital M photo of
the mentioned LFI magazine, see http://tinyurl.com/obmkp ? That was a
photoshopped M7 as clearly stated by the editors. Stefan Daniel said the new
digital M will be "about the size and weight of a M" but he did not specify
WHICH M. It could as well be closer to a M5 as several members of the german
leica-camera.de forum posted (who pretended having seen a prototype what I
doubt).
