It is certainly thicker than the current M7 and a little taller (138 x
79,5 x 38 mm) L1 (140 x 87 x 72 mm) but I'm surprised how small it is -
it also weighs the same as the current M7. What does the blanked out
section have to do with the EVF ?

Blanked out section is for the EVF. 

That camera is much larger than an M and so are the lenses.
