Tina,
Which image works better depends on the use.  The first horizontal image
fills in a lot of details about life in a highland village and what is
normal there.  The second image is the better photograph; your attention is
centered on the mother feeding her child with a supporting structure that
fills in information about why the child isn't wearing cloths.
