completely ridding ourselves of petroleum products isn't going to
happen, but each of us can reduce our usage substantially by
re-examining our everyday habits:

-> I prefer to stress my computer a few times daily by turning it off
when not in use instead of leaving it on. By the time the additional
wear on the machine makes it die it's about 15 generations behind
state-of-the-art anyway.

-> I'll take my bicycle 2 miles to the bus stop instead of driving to
the parking lot near the bus stop. At the rate I'm using it I change
the truck's oil based on the calendar instead of on the odometer.
Unfortunately the additional fuels required by the bicycle's power
plant often result in excess methane pollution.

-> wherever I can I'll re-use any plastic that enters my domain until
it's too gross to use for anything else, i.e., I carry used sandwich
bags when I walk the dog.
