Hope this will give you a couple of ideas....I made it about 8 years ago 
and it's held together well. A piece of plate glass, cut and sand 
blasted. A couple of under counter lights from Lowes, etc. A switch and 
a few countersunk screws.

The sides and ends are probably most expensive part since I used very 
good wood (bottom is plywood). I added a lamp on the side for viewing 
and working on misc small Leica parts. ;-)
