I've tried it for a while. Through the "Edit album" options I uploaded 
myself an
album highlight thumbnail in high format, but then the gallery application 
has 
cropped it again to square. If anyone knows more, he is cordially invited to
post it here.

Daniel, your gallery site is run by Gallery 2.0, too. Maybe it's an option 
for 
the big admin only?
