Create a project, e.g., "people and their dogs" or -- if you're shy -- 
"dumpster portraits".  Charles Sheeler, the renowned American Modernist 
painter and photographer, once did a series on empty rooms in his 
house.  He also did a series called "Power" in which he sought out -- 
well -- sources of power (power plants, airplane engines, etc.).

If you shoot randomly and your (as the tiresome Hollywood folks would 
say) "muse" isn't with you, you'll either see a picture everywhere and 
be disappointed with the resulting prints because of unrealistuic 
expectations, or see nothing.
