Jayanand and Chris, I have the same Nikon scanner and do use it with both
software types.
Nikon need a good overhaul of their software interface in my view.
However my Vuescan has restore colour, restore fading, grain reduction and
infrared cleaning options.
I don't know whether they are as efficient as the Digital ICE as licensed by
Nikon.
I have the pro version of Vuescan. I don't know whether these features are
available in the cheaper version.

Cheers
Hoppy

Chris,
I use a Nikon Coolscan V ED, and I find its really good. I also have an
Epson 2450, but there is no comparision, the Nikon is streets ahead for
35mm. The only caveat is probably you are better off using Vuescan
rather than Nikon Scan, but then you let go of Digital ICE - your choice!
Cheers
Jayanand
