Gee.... Cooling fans are installed because of heat dissipation.  It is not a 
design flaw for a fan to generate a lot of noise.   It
is a reality of air fluid dynamics.    If you defeat the purpose of the fan, 
you may find the drive does not last too long......

Best think twice, your photos are on that drive.........if it goes south, so 
do your photos......
